STEP ONE
- Go to My Computer, double-click on Control Panel
- Double-click on Modems
- Click on Properties
- Turn the Max Speed down to 57600
- Click on the Connection tab at the top
- Click on Advanced on lower right side
- On the right side, click on Software instead of hardware
STEP TWO (Make sure you have Windows CD or Recovery Disk before you go any further)
- Double-click on Network
- Check for: Client for Microsoft Networks, Dial up Adapter, TCP/IP (make sure you have these three things under configuration)
- Get rid of: VPN, Virtual Private Network, AOL, AOL Adapter
STEP THREE
- Under CONTROL PANEL double-click on Add/Remove Programs
- Click on Windows SETUP tab on the top
- Click on Communications to Highlight it.
- Click on Details.
- Uncheck Dial Up Networking
- Click OK
- It will ask to restart the computer, choose YES. After it restarts, go back to Control Panel if it hasn't automatically loaded.
- Repeat steps 1,2, and then click on Communications to highlight it, and click Details
- Put a check in Dial-Up Networking and click OK and click OK on windows setup
- It will then ask to restart the computer. Click Yes to restart the computer.
