Amish outcast Caleb Troyer has
returned to Sugar Creek, Ohio for the first time in thirty years. He is
visiting his brother when a small-scale nuclear attack is launched on
America, and under the guidance of former CIA Director Robert Zellman, the
country is thrown into total disorder. Secretary of Education Brian Jacobs
is appalled when CIA and FEMA Agent Don Branks informs him of his
promotion. He is now the President of the United States, and Zellman's
main target.
Caleb is trying to keep his
brother's family alive when Kaitland Meyer's son is shot, adding to his
responsibilities. Cultural and religious differences create hostilities in
the Troyer household, and Kaitland finds that the destiny of America has
fallen on Caleb, the man she loves.
The survivors, a paragon of America, come
together due to a cataclysmic event and are forced to face Zellman in his
plan for the perfect dictatorship.
