In Chosen Paths the main character,  Richard Krevitz, comes from an abusive home, in which his mother kills his father after being beaten. Richard's mother dies from injuries and he finds himself moved from one foster home to another until he ends up in an orphanage in Cleveland, Ohio. As a grown man he marries and realizes his mistake too late. His wife, Sharon, is insane, but Richard cannot leave for fear of losing their daughter, Kerra. When Sharon finally snaps she takes their daughter and leaves her in an abandoned cotton mill to die. Kerra is found and survives and Sharon is put in a mental institution. Six years later Richard is finally feeling safe, but much to his horror, Sharon is released, and she comes after Richard and Kerra for revenge.
