The United States is fast becoming two countries. One side is becoming more socialist with it's ideals of the control of the means and ways of production, the subornation of the individual to the State, and a large and intrusive central government that takes more of our freedoms, our wealth, and property to redistribute to those groups and individuals that the government deems worthy of or to "right" past "wrongs".
The other side is those Americans who still believe in capitalism and personal profit, limited government, and the representative republic that the founding fathers gave us. Socialism and republican self-government, both a political and economic issue, cannot exist in the same place and the same time and sooner or later the issue will have to be decided. Since it appears that neither side will back down the only alternative to a bloody revolution is a peaceful secession of the United States with each side going it's own way. That is what the Confederacy Project is all about.
This is my proposal for the peaceful secession of a part of the United States to preserve a part of the republic as set up by the founding fathers as the country moves closer and closer to socialism and all lost of freedoms. Going through various anti-secession websites I see that many of them see secession as a redneck white male thing, putting the darkies back on the plantation, women back in the kitchen, etc. They all point out in great detail that the white male will him be a minority in another generation or two.
The worst thing is that these websites are doing is drawing the wrong lessons from the War Between the States that succession was a way to keep non-white male "inferior" peoples out of the white male political and business mainstream. The War Between the States only showed that a highly populated and industrial country can defeat a lesser populated and mostly agrarian country.
I am a white heterosexual male and I look at secession as a way of life rather than the demographic makeup of its society. I don't care if what color you are, your creed, your sex, your race; not even your sexual orientation. I look at a person and see a sovereign individual. I am more interested in what he thinks, politically and philosophically, if he is a friend or enemy of freedom.
Liberals are the real racists; they look at what group or groups a person belong to rather than as an individual. If he chooses to be his own man rather than what the liberals think he should be then he is accused of being a traitor to his group. That is what the Nazis did; persons that were not in their Aryan "protected classes" were marched to the gas chambers.
The question actually comes down to this: do you, as an individual, want to live as a free man or free woman in a free country or as a subject in a socialistic or fascist society?
Do you want to build your personal wealth and pay taxes to a government that performs only those powers and duties that We The People allow them to do through the Constitution? Or do you want to become nothing more than a cash cow for a government that levies heavy taxes to "redistribute" income from whom the government considers to be "rich" to those who consider to be "poor" and paying for unconstitutional handout programs that benefits certain "protected classes" of people?
Do you want to keep your God given rights of property ownership and raising your children as you see fit without control or interference from the State? Or do you want the State to mandate how you can control or use your property and how to raise or educate your children?
Do you believe in equal justice under law or laws such as "hate crimes" that gives special rights to victims if they meet some kind of government classification making them "more equal" than other people?
I feel we are at the point that the United States and its political institutions are too sick to fix; too many people have traded their freedoms for security and welfare from the State. Not security in the form of protection from the bad guys but in the form of handouts and special group privileges legislated by the main political parties in exchange for votes.
I believe secession is the only option left to save some part of the Republic the founding fathers gave us. I would prefer to see a peaceful separation of the country; one part doing business as usual and the other restoring the Constitution back to the law of the land. Freedom and tyranny cannot coexist in the same place and time. Neither can capitalism and socialism. Failure to allow peaceful secession through the ballot box will only result in a bloody revolution that nobody will win.
Recently Walter Williams wrote in a recent column that Americans fed up with the way the US Government and American society are going simply to move to a couple of adjouring States like Texas and Louisiana and take over these States by lawful means through the ballot box. When the citzens have a majority there then they simply declare a Declaration of Independence and create their own country. There is nothing in the Constitution that saids that a State can't secede from the Union, even in the 13th, 14th, and 15th "Reconstruction Amendments". I have always thought that this could be accomplished bloodlessly and on friendly terms just as Dr Williams wrote. My scenario would be a phased approached as follows:
Phase One would to identify the best region of the country that could become independent. Looking at maps and other sources, the best bet looks like the five States of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and Texas. Each of these Target States was a part of the Confederate States of America (Oklahoma not a State at that time but was the pro-confederate Indian Territory). Texas has the advantage of legal precedent of being an independent Republic before joining the Union. Some parts of this area are still pretty much open and undeveloped for population expansion and do not contain large tracts of federally owned lands. Transportation maps show a good North/South and East/West interstate and railroad grid for internal communication, defense, and commence.
A first rate country also needs access to the sea which this region has. A landlocked country is always at the mercy of it's neighbors to access the seas. In addition, there is an attachment to Mexico, for hemispherical overland trade South and to border another country besides the United States. These Target States are also rich in oil and gas reserves, both on and off shore, for the creation of independent national wealth. It would not do if this new country became dependent on handouts like so many of the new countries created after World War Two has become; that only leads to poverty, strong men, and revolution.
The most important thing to remember is that for the Confederacy project to be successful, to keep this revolution bloodless, all the people who participate in the Confederacy Project must realize that until the final ties are cut we must still take seriously our rights and responsibilities as United States Citizens. That includes paying our taxes and obeying all laws, especially those having to do with firearms. This is not the place for radical hate groups, tax resisters, or anti one world government militias that would bring the entire force of the United States down on our heads.
Phase Two would be the migration of all like-minded citizens to the Target States. This is the hardest part, leaving friends and families to move to an unknown part of the country. The Confederacy Project would help in this effort by working with local job recruiters and real estate brokers, even arranging swaps with those people who are moving out of the Target States. Once here, they would register to vote.
Phase Three overlaps with phase two, increasing political power by electing Confederacy Project approved candidates for local, State, and federal offices. Say what you want about the Reform Party, but they did do this country a great public service by fighting and overturning laws purposely put in place by the DemocRATs and Republicans to keep third parties from opposing them. The Confederacy Project will carry on that fight for full ballot access. This would also be the time to revive and build up the militias, land, air, and sea, as provided by the United States Constitution. That way when the Untied States military forces (active, reserve, and federal national guard support) pull out a military self defense force will be in place.
The Confederacy Project candidates will have to be honest and disclose anything in their past that could cast doubt on their integrity else the press will eat them up alive. Of course the national press will attack them with lies anyway but why give them live ammunition? In fact, the entire movement must be open public and never meet behind closed doors except for executive sessions that, by law, have to be closed to the public such as when privacy issues of individuals must be protected. That way we keep the federal law agencies away because their legal and illegal surveillance of our activities will show that what is said in private is also said in public. We have to police ourselves and expel members that knowingly break the law and, if serious enough, inform appropriate law enforcement authorities.
Phase Four will be the time when the Confederacy Project can nominate a presidential candidate who can win the popular vote in all the Target States. As Florida has shown us in the 2000 election one State can make a difference in who is president. The point is not becoming the President of the United States (it would be great if he did) but to become a power broker with his Electoral College votes (62 combined in the Target States in 2000, 22% of the needed 273 to win). Theses electors would be released to the Republican or Democratic candidate who is most willing to let the Target States peacefully secede from the United States to keep federal law enforcement agencies honest to prevent Waco Texas and Ruby Ridge type "incidents".
Phase Five would be the final phase, with the political power in the hands of the Confederacy Project, the Target State Governors and legislatures would call for a constitutional convention and create two documents, a Declaration of Secession and a Constitution. Once these two items are ratified by the Target States, all Confederacy Project supporters who are in all elected or appointed federal positions will resign there posts and assume like posts as much as possible under the new Government. The only thing left would be the setting up of diplomatic relations with all the other sovereign nations of the world and a joint commission with the United States to smooth the transition to sovereign power.
