The ever growing and oppressive government has finally found a way to eliminate lawful businesses it does like not like. It uses it's unlimited resources to sue them out of existence. The tobacco companies are very close to going under and any thinking American can see the same tactics are being applied to firearm makers.
I see the next immediate target to be the health industry to make way for the government universal payer program which I think will drive the best doctors and most leading edge medical research overseas. Another industry has already been targeted --- fast food restaurants and other food manufacturers who produce high fat or unhealthy food that the self appointed health food Nazis don't like. It is not inconceivable one day to see the auto industry and dealers being sued for not doing a background check of buyers for insanity, drunk driving, or too many accidents.
Why is it that our freedoms are being eroded and the people just don't care? Why does the press, whose job it is to inform the public what the government is up to, is not covering all this or by biased reporting supports the government's side? Well, the only good thing I see from all this is that when the government has finished with the rest of society, the freedom of the press will the last target because their usefulness will be over. And there will be no one left to defend them.

Reply To A Question On A Message Board "Is The Press Liberal Because The Country Is Moving To The Left"?
No, America is not moving to the left. The press is trying to give that impression to make as many people think that way as possible. The 2000 presidential election map shows that most of the country still is conservative. The liberals seem to be concentrated in the big cities, the heavily unionized northeast, and the lower east coast. And all of these areas, except California, has either lost seats in Congress or stayed the same. California gained seats only because of the great number of illegal aliens who were counted and voted DemocRAT.
This ideological split can not stand and I think it will lead to a second American Revolution, where a great surge of people demands to return to the republic that was set up by the founding fathers, or a War Between The States where regions of the country go their own way or expel those parts of the country that insist on subverting the Constitution. It is coming in a generation or two and hopefully, it will be bloodless.

Today (15 December 2000) on Rush I heard a caller use my favorite term when describing the national press; he called them the "DemocRAT's whores". The word is getting around. The last eight years have not been the finest moment for the ladies and gentleman of the fourth estate and I expect even more low blows (if that is possible) the next four years as they go after President Bush and the republican controlled congress.
Ya know, one thing that I have been thinking of what does a "journalist" say to their wife or husband or "domestic partner" (of the same or different sex) when they ask "Honey, what did you today?"
The only answer, not directly in these words of course, would be: "Well, this morning I passed on several DemocRAT lies to a very gullible and very stupid public. This afternoon I helped to undermine the Constitution (of dead. white, slave holding males) and the rule of law a little more. Oh, I also supported removing a few more freedoms and personal wealth from the American people. Overall a good day because I help inched this country a little more towards socialism."
"That's nice, dear"
Luckily, the people is getting more and more wise to them and it shows in falling ratings for the big four television networks and a rise in viewer ship for Fox News and other truthful news outlets on the Internet.

In the writings of the founding fathers and the Federalist Papers you will find many examples of their belief that in order to a society remain free and be good citizens, a free and unbiased press was a necessary public service. The freedom of the press is spelled out in the First Amendment, because it was felt to be so important. Libel and slander laws having to do with writing about public officials have a very high burden of proof so the press can freely report on the government officials without fear of being shut down. One Chief Justice of the Supreme Court referred to the press as the "fourth estate" whose duty, he said, was to keep the three branches, or estates, of government accountable to the people.
Until the last fifty years or so the press upheld it's sacred duty and trust to the American people. However something has happened to the press, instead of reporting the news (who, what, when, where, and how) they now strive "to make a difference" and has willfully prostituted themselves to the liberal left and the DemocRATs. Do you think that the Clinton/Gore administration could of got away with everything it did if the press did not turn a blind eye to their activities? That Clinton could of survived impeachment if they went after him as much as they went after Nixon for far lesser things? That Algore, the usurper, can run for president rather than disgraced and in prison right now as he deserves?
The press has betrayed the founding fathers and the American people who use to depend on them for factual news. The modern liberal press has become the unpaid whores and press agents of the DemocRATs who, just like sock puppets on a child's hand, just pass on their spin even when they know it is nothing more than lies. In this last election the national press did not even pretend to be unbiased anymore, they openly supported the DemocRATs and duly reported their lies and vicious attacks against the Republicans without question or comment. Yet, they never let the Republicans get away with anything, no matter how petty.
No news reporting will never be neutral because news is reported and analyzed by human beings with feelings, opinions, and emotions. However, a professional press reporter can still report both sides of the story fairly by putting their personal feelings on the back burner. My complaint is about a press that has openly taken sides and not even care that we all know they are. The modern liberal press has become nothing more than a Ministry of Propaganda for the DemocRAT party and other liberal organizations such as the radical environmentists. That was what this rant is all about, betrayal of a public trust by an unethical and dishonest national press.

This is my reply to a letter written to the Daily Oklahoman by a local trial lawyer praising the Supreme Court's decision that upheld affirmative action admissions policies at the University of Michigan. The court ruled that as long as quotas are not called "quotas" then it is allowable for administrators to be dishonest in their admission policy to create a "diverse student body" whatever the hell that means. This decision also affects almost every University in the country. Basically the Court maintains that a "diverse student body" is more important than the Constitution and it's revenant amendments, especially the 14th. And I also just love to try to add in States Rights and Roe vs. Wade whenever possible just to piss off the local lockstep fascist-socialists:
I was reading "Point of View, Critics Miss The Courts' Point" by Robert Haupt. In the body of his opinion he wrote "… in the Michigan matter race is used not as a cutting tool, but rather as fertilizer with which to prepare the soil to better nurture a growing seed." Well, we all know what the primary ingredient that is used to produce fertilizer and the Supreme Court has spread it all over the Constitution, especially the 14th Amendment that in part says:
"… No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of Citizens of the United States; … nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."
It is ironic that a post War Between the States reconstruction Constitutional Amendment to protect the civil and Constitutional rights of freed slaves has been ignored to promote discrimination against non-black males. The Court's opinion is that is Constitutionally allowable for administrators to be dishonest in their admission policies to create a "diverse student body" as long as quotas are not called "quotas"; a reminder of a certain former president who questioned what is "is".
Hopefully when the president finally can appoint new justices (no thanks to the gutless majority Republicans in the Senate who are to afraid to take on minority Democrats) to the Supreme and Appellate Courts this bad decision will be overturned along with all other bad decisions such as Roe vs. Wade, gun ownership restrictions, and other recent decisions that violate State's Rights and the Ninth and tenth Amendments.

It is my opinion that the trial lawyers are in bed with the liberals to destroy the private medical and insurance industries so the government can ride in on a white horse and set up Hillarycare for all Americans. This may seem to be a good idea on the surface for the uninformed but victims of real medical malpractice incidents would not have any recourse for damages because doctors and health care workers would be government employees and so protected against lawsuits.
The biggest blow would be against individual freedoms and choice. One example is that the government could ban fast food, "junk" food, tobacco, or anything that bureaucrats declare could endanger public health because now that the government is now paying for health care they have a fiscal "responsibility" to control health costs.
The biggest danger is to the Second Amendment. Sure, saids the government, you can keep and bear arms but if anybody is injured by your firearms you will be sued by the government for recovery of health care costs. It would not matter if you used the gun in self protection or an accidental discharge. Nor if the gun was stolen and used in a crime. You will be responsible. You will pay. So you better turn in your firearms to protect yourself from gun injury lawsuits.

A few years ago I recall reading a cartoon that took place in a courtroom. The lawyer for the defense of a drunk driver was browbeating a farmer sitting in the witness stand. The caption read "So it was YOU who grew and sold the grain that the whiskey company manufactured and then sold to the bar my client visited and lead to his arrest for drink driving". I laughed at the absurdity of holding a farmer and manufacturers responsible for the misuse of his legal product once it becomes available in the public market.
I am not laughing anymore, that cartoon is starting to come true by the money grabbing anti-tobacco fanatics and their partners in State and Federal government. They say it is to protect the public health form primary and bogus second hand smoke health concerns and keep it out of the hands of children. Any thinking person knows that this is nothing but a shakedown of a legal industry to fund even more big government by lawmakers too cowardly to either cut government spending or raise taxes. Tell me how are the tobacco companies suppose to control their lawful product when it leaves their warehouses? Joe Camel is no more yet teen smoking is rising to all time high levels. Is the fault of the tobacco industry advertising?
Now some private and government groups are attempting to sue firearm manufacturers for crimes committed with their products. The real reason why this is being done is not to prevent crimes; the Clinton/Reno Justice department does not prosecute criminals who commit federal firearms crimes, but to get around the Second Amendment by forcing firearm manufacturers to pull out of the civilian market. Like any other commodity (like cattle futures), decreasing supplies will increase retail prices. So since denying citizens the right to keep and bear arms can not be done away with Constitutionally by amendment, it is going to done using the laws of economics by decreasing the supply of firearms and making them too expensive for the average citizen to buy. Of course firearms will still be widely available for criminals because smugglers will bring them into the country to fill the demand, just like they do for illegal drugs. Criminals understand very clearly better than liberals what supply and demand is all about, finding a need and filling it.
However the greatest danger to our society is not the loss of the Second Amendment (as bad as that by itself is), but the entire capitalist way of life this country is built on. I argue that if Colt can be sued because a criminal killed someone with one of their handguns legally sold into private hands, then why can we not sue the automobile manufacturer who made the vehicle he drove during the crime? The gasoline company he filled up the tank at on his way to commit the crime? Maybe even the company who made the tires because if he did not have tires how could he drive to the crime scene? I guess he would have to take a bus or taxi, making those firms liable for damages. How can any public company protect themselves from numerous second hand bogus liability lawsuits and still survive? They cannot. We cannot maintain our standard of living and way of life if business firms either go under or move overseas and not do business in the United States anymore.
Call me extremist if you want. Even shake your head and write me off as a radical right wing gun-owning nut if you desire. Ignore me if you do not smoke or own firearms and think that this essay does not apply to you. Think about me what you want, all I ask you do is recall two items I wrote about: the cartoon that I mentioned and Americans who shrugged off the first, feeble attacks on tobacco 30 years ago. There are many such attacks in our free society today such as against fatty foods, private ownership of land and junk-science environmental concerns, and the internal combustion engine that Algore claims is the most evil invention ever invented by man. All this and other quality of life and freedom of choice issues are being worked right now using the tactics of the anti-tobacco Nazis. Little by little over years, winning small victories and compromises that by themselves do not mean much. But groups and individuals who track such things and look at the big picture can see that the sum is greater than the value of it parts and sees the methods behind what appears to be random and disorganized actions.
All free thinking Americans must take a constant and vigilant stand, never give up anything or dealing with these devils. If you do not use your freedoms, you will lose them. One day we may look around in the Peoples Democratic Republic of the United States and ask "What happened to our freedoms and Constitution? We never saw it coming."
